i wasn't counting but, two hours in, you've given too much attention to pointing out various kinds of "racism". no one was hurt by this. i didn't grow up thinking aboriginal people run around screaming 'ooga booga' or whatever because i was exposed to these games as a kid. i sure as hell didn't grow up thinking ill of any groups that parallel with those affected by said "racism" in the early games. as you even said, your fallback argument is that it's "lazy writing" if one were to discredit the "casual racism". sure, you could call it "lazy", i suppose, but exactly how high brow do you need it to be? low brow is a style in and of itself and i see nothing wrong with implementing it here. i just chalk it up to the original fallout games going balls to the wall with the absurdism in a dystopian setting where no one would care about any of this. i wasn't expecting a tragically modern college lecture interspersed into a fallout review. this aside, i liked everything i watched around the aforementioned. i gave it a shot... thanks anyway

I know you will likely never see this, but thank you for this video. It lowered the barrier for entry for me and I bought and played the games thanks to you. I also sat down and watched all your critiques and video essays. Your voice and writing are a comfort to me. It is an absolute delight to listen, your careful analysis and comprehensive insights a true pleasure. Thanks to you specifically, I am now a person who examines his entertainment in all forms with a critical eye. I ask myself why I enjoyed something, what the story-tellers are trying to convey and what would I do differently. It has helped me immeasurably in my own writing, although I am still new to the experience. To you sir, I tip my hat. With this one video you created two things in my life. A love for a franchise and story that are very dear to me now. A sense of accomplishment in completing them. Two, a thoughtfulness and appreciation towards storytelling that I can apply to my own stories whether they be the book I've finally started writing, or DMing for my friends. Bravo, sir. Bravo.

Gotta say I think Mac is great. He plays the part of the comic relief but its clear that theres a lot of depth to him. He has the most reason for wanting to fight the swarm and he's shown to be quite smart (He's the first one to work out the mission they're on is rouge). I think him dropping the gas early was also the right move, the plan clearly wasn't going to work and he had a point about not wasting his death.

Looking for some information about the Lincoln Highway, I stumbled over this absolute gem. As a German it was a bit of a challenge to understand every word of the many interesting stories, but I think a did quiet well and it was a good lesson. Great video, however I feel as though DS3 got the short end of the stick, I thoroughly disagree with almost everything you mentioned towards it. DS2 is definitely the most flawed, in several observable ways. I am really surprised that as someone new to the series you went from loving DS1 as much as you did to not somehow hating DS2. Different strokes, I know, but on a core level DS2 has always stuck out to me as the black sheep, the one failure in the franchise, and that may sound harsh but it really does fail in comparison to From's usual quality.

There's a pretty major flaw with the analysis presented in sekiro. It presupposes that the gameplay and it's systems creatively stemmed from the games narrative design, when there is quite literally no evidence to present that. Miyazaki himself has been very open with the fact that the major gameplay design elements were created first, and then the story was retrofitted around that

1:01:53 That right there, that's why the DLC of that fucking game is getting hated on now by players, the freaking base game sets expectations that the DLC simply doesn't follow when it comes to its difficulty; you can't provide the player with numerous tools to not get two shotted or one shotted; only to then throw it all away when you release the DLC.

Nice that it has such a nice story and lore, the gameplay still seems as slow, boring and horrid as ever. I mean so many scenes (at least in the early video) are just waiting for heads to pop up, and if engaging gameplay depends on a reload quicktimeevent to engage, im flabbergasted. The camera alone gives me shivers. Speedlines and change of field of view in these types of games while „charging“ to trick into thinking there is some form of dynamic gameplay. Im sorry, but at least this kind of gameplay died fast enough at least apart from this series.

I realize im 9 years late to the video, but i just want to say that i hold blizzard, and blizzard alone, accountable for ruining the video game industry by being the first to prioritize subscription based play and microtransactions with world of warcraft. It was SUCH a great game, that i didnt get to experience beyond the free demo because my parents were smart and saw how rediculous it was to buy a big box game only to then have to pay monthly to even play it.

I've watched it before, but I keep coming back to this video. I think the ways you talk about addiction and identity and politics just strike a chord with me, building on top of what the game itself did. I think the best thing a critic can do is enhance the original work with new perspectives, and you absolutely did it here!

I've been wanting to fully delve into Fallout 76 for quite a while now. It genuinely looks like such an interesting world to explore. However, without the premium subscription, exploration and the "loot loop" are heavily gated by the limited storage space. Even though they've increased it substantially since release, it is still not enough imo. It is as you say, the single player experience is a premium feature locked behind a paywall, and that continues to be a deal breaker for me.

I get the feeling you probably wouldn't want to considering the shit you (unfairly, IMO) got from the extreme end of the western FromSoft fandom, but I'd love to see you visit the other From franchises sometime, especially King's Field and Shadow Tower, from the perspective of someone who has played through the Soulsborne games. There's also a lot of cheese you can do in AC6 and I'd love to see the outcome of that.

Recently discovered the absolute beauty of dark souls remastered, and it was fucking amazing! While making my way through the game, I was keeping in mind some of the things you said in this video (or more accurately, what I remembered you saying, since I it was over a year ago that I watched this video at the time of playing). One thing was that relying on summoning was an acceptable way of dealing with certain challenges that your specific character build isn't great at dealing with on its own, and another was that building my character to play the way I wanted the game to play was possible, as long as I commited to a playstyle, rather than trying to cover all my bases. Some of my victories were cheap, and some of them were straight up fucking heroic, and I loved all of it. And the cohesive world building, looping back in on itself, was simply brilliant. I want so many more games to do that!

Is there like a complete gap between people that played splinter cell, and people that played resident evil 4? Like like completely separated demographics that never have ever crossed over? Cuz, it sure gets a lot of credit for that over the shoulder shooting that others had done both before and better... Shoot I'm pretty sure, OG splinter cell had a cover system, as well as some limited blindfire stuff if I recall.. I can't remember if it was only blindfire though lol.. This was replaced with shoulder swapping in the third one, One of the few things it didn't completely surpass its predecessors with. The second one had a laser pointer as well, proper laser, without the stupid beam.. and it actually made sense mechanically, as it would jitter to give a physical representation of what had been implied from the expanding crosshairs.. although I'm pretty sure it's not the first game with a laser pointer. But the original splinter cell is pretty much the first time I can find the over the shoulder camera matched with FPS controls when a weapon is drawn and aimed..
